U21 Champions

Congrats to all! Results for U21 Championship are as follows:

NYP Dong - Semi Pro Champion
NYP Nan - Semi Pro 3rd Place
NYP Xi - Novice Champion
NYP Bei - Novice 3rd Place

Job well done for all! I know pressure is on all of you but you guys delivered!

Right from the start, everyone else were thinking NYP are the favourites and wanted to beat us! Yes, we lost games here and there, game play was bad. However, the field and game style was never NYP's strong points. I was glad that you guys picked it up after losing points and games at the start.

Lessons learnt:

1) Read thru what are the competition requirements, rules and regulations.

eg. If the competition is based on scoring system and not win lose format, plan ahead and go on the offense!

No point crying over beating one team and not getting into the top few positions due to lack of scores. Everything was written on paper and signed so its up to us to check it out!

2) Ultimate Rules.

Please read up and enforce the rules! I know a lot of our oppositions do not know the rules but we have to learn to identify it. On a friendly note, we can kindly remind and educate our oppositions about the rules. Most of them are from schools and hence, they may not have the luxury like you guys, have coaches and grads to guide you thru.

If the person had committed a fault, call for it. Don't come out of the line then start complaining. On top of that, once a fault is called, its either contested or non contested.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, SPIRIT OF THE GAME! NYP has always played fair and you guys should continue to uphold it. Never mind what lousy calls the other teams make. If we have to resort to calling it ourselves, we are of no difference with them! If they want to make that kind of bad and unspirited calls, let them be! We DO NOT need to make this kind of calls to WIN games!

3) Experience

You guys did a great job due to several reasons:

- More than 70% of the players sent are juniors.
- Juniors have played less than 5 months.
- This is the very first competition juniors joined.
- Field and game play wasn't what we expected.

Based on the above mentioned reasons, I have every reasons to be proud of NYP Ultimate! Be warned, if all of you continue this rate of improvement, I will be expecting my 2nd Golden generation!

Besides the lessons learnt, I would like to take this chance to THANK the seniors and grads that came down and made a difference. Special thanks to:

1) Kenneth
2) Wee Kwan
3) Chee Siang
4) Loh Biao
5) Alex

Special thanks to Kenneth and Wee Kwan for making time to lead and guide the juniors. Job well done guys!

I have said before, winning isn't what I wanted from this competition. Its the process that I am interested in! If by losing this competition can spur u on and push you to train harder, I would rather you have lost it. This is the very first stepping stone that you guys will encounter. If you are satisfied with this, its rather disappointing to know! Use this experience well, keep the good stuff and discard the bad ones!

Now, its back to square one. The drawing board!!

Rest well on Sunday and Monday. Training will resume on:

Tuesday
Hockey Pitch
5pm
Water Bottles & Track Shoes
Wednesday
NYP Fields
5pm
Water Bottles & Soccer Boots
If you feel disappointed,
If you feel dejected,
Training hard is the best way to make up for any mistakes or any bad that you have done during the competition. Giving up now is giving up on the team and team mates that have stood by you. Heads up. Lets TRAIN!
DONG! NAN! XI! BEI! NYP!
Cheers,
Benjamin Ho
