Want to train up?

After a few months of Ulty training, guess all juniors know by now that in Ulty the most basic thing is running, and running fast! And we all have experienced the oh so long point with kazillion turnovers. So tired...

How to improve your running? Some ideas......

1) Stretch and warm up properly. Believe me, a really good warm up may take quite some time. Don't do half-hearted stretching. A good warm up is never as short as 10 minutes. But a good warm up may ensure good performance for 2 or 3 hours.

2) Improve on your running form. You think those knee lifts and butt kicks are for fun? No...if you ever read runner's world, you'd find out they are part of running technique training. This technique training is low impact, relatively easy, and improves your running without you even noticing it. Try runner's world, or maybe online runner's resources for exercises.

3) Eat. Meaning, eat something before training that has high energy content. Bananas are a good idea. You never see a Ulty league without bananas. And eat after. Suggestion: Foods that contain some fast absorbing protein...maybe chocolate milk. Besides the usual rice and other carbs that replace your glycogen stores so that you can pia some more, your muscles need to repair. To repair, you need protein.

4) Rest. If you are injured, rest. If you can't watch an Ulty training without getting finger itchy although you are injured, let the cap or vice cap know and take a break. We rather you recover totally and come back strong than recover halfway and come back with half mended injuries. Your Ulty career, even your entire sporting life, might decided by proper rest and recovery.

5) Additional training????? Ever thought of what other sports you could do in order to improve your Ulty? Boring people like me would do interval training, gym and such individual sports that complement Ulty. But hey, how about doing simple things, like doing sit ups and push ups every morning so that you have a strong core and less chance of injury? Idea... Plus, you'd get closer to getting that six pack. I'm not talking about beer. For more ideas ask your seniors...

Hope these suggestions might help you guys...but most of all, have fun in Ulty. Looking strong and fit, and improving your chances of skying our dear coach are just secondary motivations. :P

Regards,
LTC
